Activities for the Public held at the Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor Center
Saturday, May 2, 2009 10 AM–3 PM

Education Activity Stations Include:
  • Hikes:Get acquainted with Mission Trails Regional Park as you join Naturalists on a hike. Hikes at 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, and 1:30 PM
  • Botany/Research Library: Draw a plant sample and learn about the Museum’s Research Library.
  • Entomology: Build a leaf bug; children get to craft a creature they might like to meet while at the same time learning about actual insect and arachnid body types.
  • Herpetology: Get up close and personal with these San Diego inhabitants; view live reptiles and amphibians. How do they feel? Touch a snakeskin and tell us what you think.
  • Mammalogy: Mammals are elusive, so how do we know where they’ve been? Scat and Track! Test your knowledge through a Scat and Track game.
  • Ornithology: Bird beak feeding game. Use different bird beak stand-in’s in order to catch a meal—what sort of beak do you need to catch the meal you want?
  • Paleontology: Be a Paleontologist in the field as you excavate a fossil dig site.

How much does BioBlitz cost?

The Museum’s BioBlitz at Mission Trails is a FREE event thanks to the support of our generous sponsors.

Will I get to see scientists at work?

Absolutely—during Saturday’s events you will be able to interact with scientists as they identify and sort specimens they have collected at MTRP.

Can children attend alone?

No, children need to be accompanied by an adult in order to participate in Saturday activities.

May I bring my scout group?

Yes, the Museum’s BioBlitz at Mission Trails activities on Saturday are the perfect opportunity for Scouts to meet badge requirements. Are there restroom facilities?

Yes, at the Visitor Center.

Will I need to bring my own food?

Yes, food will not be sold during BioBlitz; however MTRP serves as a beautiful setting for a picnic.

Is the Museum’s BioBlitz at Mission Trails outdoors?

Yes, the Museum’s BioBlitz at Mission Trails will be held Saturday outside on the Vistor Center Terrace. Be sure to wear appropriate clothing for the weather as well as for taking part in the hikes that will be held throughout the day.

Is there wheelchair access?

Yes, as part of the San Diego Park System, the Visitors Center at Mission Trails Regional Park is ADA compliant.
